From 08 - 10th July 2026 our Summer School brought together our RTG researchers with guest from Würzburg and Heidelberg for an interdisciplinary programme spanning cardiovascular research, cardiac regeneration, advanced imaging and entrepreneurship.

We were delighted to welcome Prof. Gustavo Ramos from Würzburg, who spoke about viral infections and tissue repair after myocardial infarction. Moreover, Dr. Arica Beisaw from Heidelberg shared insights into the intercellular communication during cardiac regeneration.

Prof. Anika Grüneboom, project leader in project 2, gave a talk on the exciting applications of Light Sheet Fluorescence Microscopy in cardiovascular research.

Lastly, Jacob Fatih - successful entrepreneur - shared his perspective on translating ideas into innovative ventures.

For the Annual Retreat of RTG 2989 our vibrant research community gathered for two days of scientific exchange, collaboration, and reflection from Nov 7-8 2025 in Wermelskirchen.

Our PhD and MD students presented their latest findings from their projects within our three research areas immune cells, vascular cells and cardiomyocytes— highlighting the diversity and innovation within the RTG.

We were pleased to welcome Dr. Alpaslan Tasdogan, Prof. Derek Yellon, and Prof. Christoph Friedrich, whose insights inspired engaging discussions on translational research, metabolism, and the future of AI in medicine.
