LibKey Nomad++: Find full texts on the web instantly
What is LibKey Nomad++?
LibKey Nomad++ is a browser extension that checks publisher websites, databases, and even sites such as Wikipedia and Amazon to see if a licensed or freely available full text exists, and then provides a direct download link.
Nomad++ recognises DOIs (articles) and eISBNs (e-books) on websites, compares them with the University Library's licences and displays a button for direct access to the article. If no licence access is available, alternatives are offered (e.g. print reference in Primo or forwarding to interlibrary loan).
Installation
- Install extension (Chrome, Firefox, Edge, etc.):
→ Download LibKey Nomad++: https://thirdiron.com/downloadnomad/ - In the "Select Organisation" step, select the University of Duisburg-Essen.
- Done: Nomad++ now runs automatically in the background.
Supported websites & features
- Inline integration: On sites such as Wikipedia or PubMed, additional inline buttons appear directly next to the source references.
- Google Scholar: Nomad++ automatically enters the UDE as a library link, so you can immediately see whether access is available.

- Specialised publishers & e-books: Many publishers are supported; Amazon also displays when the UDE has access to an e-book.

- Databases: Works with Scopus, Web of Science, PubMed and others.

- Assist / reminder messages: for example, help with logging in (e.g. to Scopus) or information about events.

- Citation export: Citations can be exported using the hat icon.
- Language: Currently in English; a German translation is in progress.
- Plugin settings: Position of notifications (corners of the screen) freely selectable.
Advantages at a glance
- Often just one click to the full text of articles and books.
- Works on many research and publishing sites.
- Displays open access and UDE licences transparently (flame icon "Download PDF").
- Saves time, reduces detours and misdirection.
How do I get the full text?
- Direct link: The button displayed opens the PDF in a new tab. You can then save it.
- Via Primo: If no licence is available, Nomad++ checks the print stock at the UDE and links to the interlibrary loan service.
Data protection
- The service is provided by Third Iron / BZ Disc (USA), with whom the University Library has concluded a data processing agreement in accordance with the GDPR (= 'DSGVO').
- LibKey does not process any personal content. Only the connection data common to web services (e.g. IP address, browser type) is transmitted for statistical purposes by Third Iron.
- Personal registration is not required.
- If a Shibboleth login is required to access the full text, LibKey will redirect you to this login, but will not process it itself.
