Outgoing Students Study Abroad

A stay abroad broadens one's horizons and is an experience that is not only personally enriching, but is also one of the so-called "soft skills" that are often desired by young professionals today.

Stays such as studies, apprenticeships or internships can be implemented through various programs and, under certain circumstances, can also be financed through scholarships. The International Office offers an overview of the possibilities:

Preparation and Training International Offers

If the stay abroad is not yet possible or preparation for it is imminent, the University of Duisburg-Essen also offers, among other things, foreign language courses or the buddy programme in addition to the exchange programs.

Both as preparation for the stay and beyond curricular obligation, students can network with each other and already get to know the language and culture of the host country.

Where to? Partner Universities

Once the decision to study abroad has been made, the choice of a partner university of the respective faculty is a good idea. Through the cooperation of the University of Duisburg-Essen with other universities, the stays can be coordinated and the study achievements abroad can be credited. The cooperations run with universities within the EU and within the framework of the Erasmus+ program as well as with non-European universities.

Via the MoveOn4 portal, the partner universities can be filtered according to countries and faculties and thus the suitable host university can be found.

How? Financing

One hurdle for the decision of a stay abroad can often be the financing. There are various offers and possibilities to overcome this hurdle and make the stay possible.

  • Erasmus+ is a funding opportunity within the EU
  • The PROMOS scholarship and DUE-Mobil support stays worldwide
  • Students who are entitled to BAföG but who do not currently receive BAföG can also apply for Auslands-BAföG.
  • In addition: DAAD scholarship, the Fullbright Commission and the educational loan.
