Not New York City - but close to itLiving in Duisburg & Essen

Anyone who walks across the two campuses of the UDE will encounter people from more than 130 nations meeting in a great melting pot: Here in the Ruhr region. The Ruhr region is an entity of superlatives - the largest settlement area in Germany. Despite all the prejudices, it is not gray here, but green. In 2017, Essen bore the title of "European Green Capital." And the Ruhr region is rich in culture. So rich, in fact, that the entire region was declared Capital of Culture 2010 by the EU. But while other metropolitan areas strive to always present their chocolate side, the people here show themselves as they are.
