Open Educational Resources: Financial support
With its OER policy, the UDE has been encouraging all members of the university to publish their own educational materials as OER since 2022, and thus providing them with an official framework for action.
One component in promoting the use of OER in teaching at this university is the financial support provided to lecturers in the creation and publication of OER content. The aim is to support lecturers in converting existing materials into OER and then making them accessible in an OER repository.

Funding opportunities for OER at the UDE
Teaching-learning innovations from the ZHQE
As part of the ZHQE’s Teaching-Learning innovations (Lehr-Lern-Innovationen) funding program, teachers who wish to further develop their teaching practice have been able to apply for funding in four funding lines (15,000 euros) every year since 2018.
The funding lines Teaching Diverse, Teaching Digital, Teaching International, and Teaching ESD are aimed at professors and their teams. Teaching and learning materials developed in the funding lines that are suitable for subsequent use by third parties must be made available as OER under an appropriate license.

DH.NRW Projects
The UDE participates together with 36 other universities in NRW in the provision of OER content within the framework of various funding programs and cooperations of DH.NRW. DH.NRW projects with UDE participation can be viewed on the project website.

OER funding of the UDE (financed from Rectorate funds)
From 2022 to 2025, numerous projects for the creation of free educational materials were implemented at the UDE with the OER funding.
These materials can be freely used, further developed, and used in teaching. Results from funded projects can be found in the overview of OER projects at the UDE.
Unfortunately, further funding is currently no longer available. We will inform you about future developments here.
