Enrolment for International Doctoral Students

Please note that the enrollment regulations of the University of Duisburg-Essen stipulate that formal enrollment is mandatory for doctoral studies. As long as you wish to continue your doctoral studies, you must also re-enroll regularly within the deadline set by the university. Enrollment is generally limited to 10 semesters. Re-registration is mandatory until the date of the dissertation defense. This is stipulated in the provisions of the Higher Education Act (§ 67 (4) and (5)) and the enrollment regulations.

There is no deadline for applying for enrollment.

Doctoral students who enroll at the UDE receive a student ID card that can be used as a library card, cafeteria card, copy card, and for the shuttle bus between Duisburg and Essen. They also receive a Germany semester ticket (Deutschlandsemesterticket) for use on public transportation.
