The European Doctoral Day, launched in 2026 as a Europe-wide initiative, highlights the importance of doctoral education for scientific excellence, innovation, and societal progress. More than 170 events across Europe will celebrate doctoral researchers and their contributions within and beyond academia.

The Graduate Center Plus takes part in the first European Doctoral Day by offering an info session:
Doctoral Candidate at University of Duisburg-Essen – An Introduction (13 May 2026, 11:00–13:00 h, online via Zoom)

Starting a doctorate in a new academic and cultural environment can be both exciting and challenging — especially for international researchers.
The event provides valuable insights into

  • systemic structures and existing regulations,
  • important contact points and support services,
  • diverse career paths for doctoral graduates.

The event is open to professionals, doctoral researchers, students, and anyone interested in pursuing a doctorate at UDE.
Registration is possible until 13 May, 9 a.m. here.

As part of UA Ruhr Research Academy, the GC Plus also offers an info session on the Research Explorer Ruhr programme for (early or prospective) international Postdocs together with colleagues from Ruhr-University Bochum and TU Dortmund University: "Explore your Research Opportunities in Germany with the Research Explorer Ruhr Programme" (13 May 2026, 9:00 - 10:00 h).
