Early-Career Research Groups

Emmy-Noether-GroupDr. Brandt A. L. Gaches

The research group is intensively studying the role that the physics of cosmic rays plays in the chemistry of molecular clouds. Cosmic rays trigger a wide variety of chemical reactions, as illustrated by the “tree of cosmic ray chemistry.” Much of my work focuses on investigating the effects of cosmic rays on the emission of species in the so-called “carbon cycle.” Their emission is of fundamental importance, as it contributes to the cooling of the gas and is also crucial for observational studies of the interstellar medium.
