Publisher-specific funding opportunities

American Institute of Physics (AIP)

The contract with AIP entitles UDE authors (corresponding authors) to publish in 26 of the 28 hybrid AIP journals free of charge until the article quota is reached in the current year.

Publications in Gold Open Access journals are not part of the contract. The usual AIP author fees (APCs) apply for this.

ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers)

The contract with ASME grants authors (corresponding authors) from UDE a 50 % discount on APCs for articles in the publisher's 33 hybrid journals.

Benjamins

The contract with John Benjamins entitles UDE authors (corresponding authors) to publish free of charge in all hybrid journals of the publishing house. There is no article quota.

BMJ Publishing Group (BMJ)

The contract with BMJ entitles UDE authors (corresponding authors) to publish in the journals of the BMJ Journals Online Standard Collection in hybrid open access free of charge within the scope of an article quota. If the quota is used up before the end of the license period, the APCs would have to be paid regularly for further articles if they are to be published in hybrid open access. Here you can find all relevant journals.

Please note that the journal "The BMJ" is excluded from this. Free hybrid publishing for corresponding authors of participating institutions in this journal is not part of the contract.

The UDE has also purchased a BMJ Open Access membership so that APCs are discounted 25 % for publication in Gold Open Access journals by corresponding authors.

Cambridge University Press (CUP)

The contract with CUP entitles UDE authors (corresponding authors) to publish free of charge in all CUP journals under an Open Access license - regardless of whether the journal is one of the 41 Gold Open Access journals or one of the 332 subscription journals (hybrid journals).

Cogitatio Press

Through the UDE's participation in the Institutional Membership Program, UDE authors (corresponding authors) can publish in the publisher's Gold Open Access journals at no additional cost.

A list of journal titles and further information can be found here.

The membership enables UDE authors to publish Open Access articles in journals of the Copernicus publishing house. Invoices up to an amount of 2.000 € incl. VAT are paid centrally via the UB. For articles whose costs are higher, partial funding can be applied for.

 De Gruyter

The contract with De Gruyter entitles UDE authors (corresponding authors) to publish free of charge in 111 hybrid journals of the publishing house.

Publications in Gold Open Access journals are not part of the contract. However, the contract with De Gruyter grants UDE corresponding authors a 20 % discount on APCs if the article is published in a Gold Open Access journal. In this regard, please refer to our funding conditions.

Elsevier-DEAL

The UDE has been participating in the Germany-wide DEAL contract with the publisher Elsevier retroactively since 1 September 2023. The contract runs until the end of 2028, provided that a sufficient number of German scientific institutions join by 15.01.2024.

The contract provides for a comprehensive Open Access component for UDE authors. All articles by Submitting Corresponding authors of the UDE will be published in Open Access with the authors' consent - both in the Gold Open Access journals and in the subscription journals of Elsevier. The author fees (APCs) of Submitting Corresponding authors of the UDE are paid and financed centrally by the UDE. Invoices are processed by the UL.

The portfolio currently comprises approx. 1.800 Elsevier Core Hybrid journals, approx. 50 titles from Cell Press and The Lancet and approx. 660 Gold Open Access journals.

The Elsevier DEAL contract recommends that all authors publish articles under a CC-BY licence.

Emerald

The contract with Emerald entitles UDE authors (corresponding authors) to publish for them free of charge in all hybrid journals of the publisher. There is no article quota.

Frontiers

Due to the UDE's membership with this Swiss Open Access publisher, UDE authors are granted a 10 % discount on the list price. Since the APC price cap of € 1.680 plus tax has been abolished since 2022, the costs can only be reimbursed up to a maximum of € 2.000 incl. VAT.

Hogrefe (PsyJournals)

The contract with Hogrefe entitles UDE authors (corresponding authors) to publish free of charge in all hybrid journals of the publisher. The publisher currently only offers hybrid open access journals. There is no article quota.

IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers)

The contract with IEEE entitles UDE authors (corresponding authors) to publish for them free of charge in all IEEE journals - regardless of whether it is one of the gold open access journals or one of the subscription journals (hybrid journals).

 Institute of Physics (IOP)

The contract with IOP entitles UDE authors (corresponding authors) to publish free of charge under an Open Access licence in all IOP journals - regardless of whether it is one of the 21 Gold Open Access journals or one of the 53 subscription journals (hybrid journals).

MDPI (Multidisciplinary Digital Publishing Institute)

Through the UDE's membership with this Swiss Open Access publisher, UDE authors receive a 10 % discount on their article fees when publishing. Invoices are processed centrally by the UB.

Nature (Springer)

The contract with Nature entitles UDE authors (corresponding authors) to publish free of charge in the hybrid Nature Branded Journals. Excluded from this are the Nature Reviews journals and Nature Protocols (currently 24 titles). You can find a current list of titles here.

PLOS (Public Library of Science)

This membership enables UDE authors to publish open access articles free of charge in the journals of PLOS, a US publisher of journals in the natural and life sciences.

RSC (Royal Chemical Society)

The contract with RSC entitles UDE authors (corresponding authors) to publish free of charge in all hybrid and gold open access journals of the publishing house. There is no article quota.

Sage

The contract with Sage entitles UDE authors (corresponding authors) to publish free of charge in all hybrid journals of the publisher. There is no article quota.

The contract with Sage also grants UDE authors (corresponding authors) a 20 % discount on APCs if the article is published in a Gold Open Access journal.

Springer-Nature-DEAL

Since 2020, UDE has been participating in the Germany-wide DEAL contract with the publisher Springer Nature.

The contract provides for a comprehensive open access component for UDE authors. All articles of submitting corresponding authors of the UDE will be published in open access if the author agrees - both in the gold open access journals (since 01.08.2020) and in the subscription journals of Springer-Nature.
The author fees (APCs) of submitting corresponding authors of the UDE are paid and financed centrally by the UDE.
The University Library is responsible for processing the fees.

The Springer-DEAL contract recommends all authors to publish articles under a CC-BY license.

Taylor & Francis

The contract with Taylor & Francis entitles UDE authors (corresponding authors) to publish free of charge in around 2.200 of the publisher's hybrid journals.

Wiley-DEAL

Since 2019, UDE has been participating in the Germany-wide DEAL contract with the publisher Wiley.

The contract provides a comprehensive Open Access component for UDE authors. All articles by Submitting Corresponding authors of the UDE will be published in Open Access - both in the Gold Open Access journals and in the subscription journals of Wiley - if the authors agree. Author fees (APCs) from Submitting Corresponding authors at UDE are paid and funded centrally by UDE. The UB is responsible for processing the fees.

The Wiley-DEAL contract recommends all author:s to publish articles under a CC-BY license.

As of 01.01.2023, the OA agreement with Wiley was extended to include the 260 journals published by Hindawi.
