Graduate Center Plus: offers in the summer semester 2021
For early career researchers from the doctorate to junior professorship
On the way to a doctorate and for post-doctoral career paths, transferable skills and networks play an important role in addition to professional expertise. In the summer semester, the Graduate Center Plus will again offer interdisciplinary training, advice, and information events that prepare for a career within and beyond academia and invite you to expand your competencies and to identify personal potential.
During your doctorate
Home Training Days
Whether it is writing scientific papers, presenting research results at a conference, or good time management – these and many other skills are helpful during doctoral studies and can be trained. For this purpose, we offer regular workshops in the Home Training Days series, which are specifically aimed at doctoral researchers. The dates are published quarterly, early registration is recommended.
Publication Days
In cooperation with the University Library, the Publication Days will take place again starting in May. In compact lectures, experts will provide information on e.g. research data management, open access procedures, or publishing the dissertation. The dates and topics will be announced in the course of April.
GC Plus Summer School
The GC Plus Summer School from 23 to 27 August offers a completely English-language workshop programme. This offer is primarily aimed at international PhD candidates who are currently conducting research at the UDE. The programme will be published at the beginning of July.
Workshops and networking for Postdocs
Postdoc Workshops
The three UA Ruhr universities offer a joint postdoc workshop programme under the umbrella of Research Academy Ruhr (RAR). Topics in the summer semester are for example: "Forschungsdatenmanagement" (6.5.; 27.5.), "Medientraining für Forschende" (17., 18., 20. & 21.5.), "Kooperation in Wissenschaft und Forschung" (9.–10.7.) or "Wissenschaftliche Karriere und Familie" (25.–26.8.).
Sommerabend
The RAR Sommerabend [summer evening] for postdocs will be held virtually for the first time this year on 17 June. The thematic focus will be on the importance and relevance of the public discourse on science communication for research and researchers. Details will be announced later this spring.
Postdoc Coffee
Corona has turned our lives and routines upside down and changed where and how we meet people: gone are the days of just running into someone in the tea kitchen, in the corridors, or at talks and workshops. The Postdoc Coffee sessions offer a space to have some of the conversations you might have had during those chance meetings with peers.
Karriereforum
Postdocs can already save the date for the next Karriereforum: It will take place on 23 September and is dedicated to the topic of career options and paths after the doctorate. Details will be published in the course of the summer.
On your way to a professorship
CoachingPLUS: seminars with individual coaching
Postdoctoral researchers who are already leading a junior research group, hold a junior professorship or are about to complete their habilitation will find a specially tailored offer within the RAR. The CoachingPLUS programme combines seminars in small groups and individual coaching. The dates for the summer semester are

- Developing an effective research funding strategy (19.8.).

By phone or during an online consultation, we will be happy to advise you on questions regarding career planning, academic competencies, or the doctoral process in general. Special burdens or challenges due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic can be addressed during the Coaching Hour.
