Starting your research career in a new country often means navigating unfamiliar structures, expectations and academic cultures. To support international early career researchers at the University of Duisburg-Essen, the Graduate Center Plus (GC Plus) is launching the International Researcher Compass – a new format offering orientation, practical guidance and opportunities to connect.

The programme kicks off with three online sessions in October:

  • 12 October | The German Academic System
Get an introduction to the German academic landscape and gain a better understanding of your research environment.

  • 13 October | Mental Wellbeing for Doctoral Researchers
Learn to recognise stress factors and warning signs and explore practical strategies for supporting your wellbeing throughout your doctorate.

  • 14 October | Introduction for New Doctoral Candidates
Get to know important regulations, contacts and support structures for starting your doctorate at UDE.

All sessions are held online and in English and can be attended individually or in combination.

Learn more & register by 4 October 2026 here

If you know international colleagues who might benefit from these sessions, please feel free to share this information with them.
