Dr. André Armbruster studied sociology in Bielefeld and Johannesburg, South Africa. After completing his studies, he worked as a research associate at the CVJM-Hochschule Kassel and the Helmut-Schmidt-Universität / University of the Federal Armed Forces Hamburg. Since 2017, he has been a research associate at the Chair of General Sociology and Sociological Theory at the University of Duisburg-Essen. In 2022, he received his doctorate from the University of Duisburg-Essen with the dissertation "Organized Religious Fields. Studies on Field Theory, Organization and Religion".

His research focuses on: Sociological theory, particularly practice and field theories as well as theory building, sociology of religion and church, relational sociology, organizational sociology, and sociology of violence.
