ZIM is acting as a central service unit for all members of the University of Duisburg-Essen. It was founded in order to boost the core competences of the computing and media centres, the data processing units of the university administration and the library by merging them into one organisation.
We are the central IT-service facility. Our tasks range from providing networks and servers, e-learning platforms, qualified consulting on all our e-Servcies and on e-learning, media and IT-support, to high performance computimg as well as training courses.
The organisational structure of the ZIM combines stability and flexibilty to enable communication and cooperation, project- and processoriented work and openness to innovation. The Centre for Information and Media Services is subdivided into five divisions:

Each division at ZIM focuses on certain key competencies. In this way, the Center is able to offer a broad range of services and to address the challengens of the future.
The ZIM within the University Organisation
The ZIM is providing comprehensive information-, communication- and media-services to render optimal support for researchers, lectures and students, but also to the administration. The ZIM is established particularly to accomplish future oriented requirements in a better way.
The ZIM as an integrated service unit was established specifically to meet future IT and media challenges strategically. As a central service unit it s directly linked to the rectorate by the ICM board consisting of the prorector, the chancellor and the directors of the ZIM and the University Library.
