The workshop “The Frontier of Continental North East Asian Industrialization. The Long perspective (1895 - Now)” will take place on Monday, 25 February at the Campus Duisburg, Geibelstraße 41, Room SG 183. It is organised by Prof.Dr. Flemming Christiansen (UDE) and Prof. Dr. Christine Moll-Murata (RUB).

The workshop participants explore how industrialization emerged in the power competition between the Russian, Chinese and Japanese empires. The papers discuss markets, labor, technologies, and capital formation outside nation-state settings and show their extension across the wider region during the last 130 years.

The event is a joint effort of colleagues from the AREA (Alliance for Research on East Asia) Ruhr network between the Universities Duisburg-Essen and Ruhr University Bochum, and associated scholars from Amsterdam, Hohhot, London, Suzhou, Warsaw, Poznan, Bonn, Leiden, and Moscow.
