UDE strongly condemns violence
In solidarity with the people of Iran
The University of Duisburg-Essen stands for a free and peaceful society without prejudice. We look with concern to the massive violence against the women and men who are courageously demonstrating for fundamental human rights and rejecting restrictions on equality and diversity in Iran.
"We particularly condemn the brutal crackdown on students and university staff as we are now witnessing at Sharif University in Tehran," says Vice Rector Prof. Karen Shire on behalf of the university's leadership. "Many people from Iran are studying here at the UDE or doing research here as scientists. They should know: they are not alone: Neither in their demands for change, nor in their fear for friends or family members. We stand by you!“
