Jana Carolina Schuman's passion for physics began while she was still at school. Today, she studies and conducts research at UDE, supports school pupils through early-learning programmes, is actively engaged in the student council and with freestyle-physics – and shows with great enthusiasm that physics is anything but dry.

The European Commission is planning to simplify the approval process for active substances used in plant protection products and to relax existing limits on the duration of their authorisation. In an interview with Deutschlandfunk, Prof. Ralf Schäfer (University of Duisburg-Essen) explains why the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina believes these proposals could undermine the protection of human health and the environment.
