Anyone who walks across the two campuses of the UDE will encounter people from more than 130 nations meeting in a great melting pot: Here in the Ruhr region. The Ruhr region is an entity of superlatives - the largest settlement area in Germany. Despite all the prejudices, it is not gray here, but green. In 2017, Essen bore the title of "European Green Capital." And the Ruhr region is rich in culture. So rich, in fact, that the entire region was declared Capital of Culture 2010 by the EU. But while other metropolitan areas strive to always present their chocolate side, the people here show themselves as they are.

Creating educational equity - that doesn't happen without effort. That is why we have established a large-scale mentoring system at our university. The task of our mentors is to support, accompany and inspire their students. In most cases, this professional and personal support improves academic performance and reduces dropout and failure rates.
What conditions must be in place for teaching and learning processes to succeed and produce successful results? And how can the quality of teaching and learning be assured and continuously developed? At the UDE, we systematically address these questions - also on the basis of evaluation and research - and develop answers together with many stakeholders at different levels.
The UDE Panel is a university-owned, representative survey aimed at students and former students of the UDE. The aim is to describe the individual situation of the students and their assessment of the structural conditions in their studies and to determine factors influencing their success in their studies as well as transitions in the course of their studies.
