The flag-draped state coaches drove up in a large convoy: His Majesty Willem-Alexander, King of the Netherlands, and NRW Minister-President Hendrik Wüst were informed about hydrogen technology at the ZBT - Centre for Fuel Cell Technology. They were accompanied by a delegation of more than 40 Dutch companies.

Willem-Alexander and Wüst held small round-table discussions with ZBT scientists and representatives from Dutch industry on various aspects of hydrogen technology and the necessary infrastructure. The Ruhr region is a strategically worthwhile destination for the King, especially in light of the planned market ramp-up of green hydrogen: the Ruhr region recently topped the hydrogen ranking of the German Economic Institute ("Institut der Deutschen Wirtschaft").

During the subsequent laboratory tour and the tour of the hydrogen test field, the two had in-depth discussions with the scientists about current research projects and explored joint perspectives.

King Willem-Alexander and Minister President Wüst travelled to the next stop on their visit, the port of Duisburg, in ZBT's own hydrogen car.
