Few pupils at the comprehensive school in northern Essen participate in sports. The school sports club RISE, founded by Prof. Gebken, aims to change that. All pupils at the Gustav-Heinemann-Schule are welcome to try a sport they like, and enjoy a sense of community.

The German Research Foundation has renewed funding for the Collaborative Research Centre/Transregio 247 “Heterogeneous Oxidation Catalysis in the Liquid Phase” for a further four years. Led by Ruhr University Bochum, with University of Duisburg-Essen as co-applicant institution, the researchers aim to make selective oxidation reactions more efficient and sustainable.
