Scholarship program - Studienstiftung des Detschen Volkes

Are you thinking of studying in a country you might not have considered before, starting in the 2027/28 academic year? How about learning a language that isn’t taught at every school in Germany? If so, the ‘ Metropolen in Mittel-, Südost- und Osteuropa’ scholarship program might be just the thing for you. 

Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Estonia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Croatia, Lithuania, Latvia, Moldova, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, the Czech Republic, and Hungary.

The scholarship is open to students in all fields of study (with the exception of art and design for first-time recipients) who have completed at least the second semester, are pursuing their studies with dedication, and have very good grades, who wish to spend time in one of these countries. 
The minimum duration is 7 months; the maximum duration is 4 semesters. During the stay, students must complete an intensive language course lasting at least 2 weeks. 

Scholarship recipients receive: 

• a monthly flat-rate allowance for study expenses of 300 EUR
• a domestic scholarship calculated based on parental income, similar to Bafög, of up to 855 EUR
• subsidies for health and long-term care insurance of up to 137 EUR
• A flat-rate allowance for studying abroad of 350 EUR per month (max. 12 months)
• Funding for an intensive language course in the host country (min. 2 weeks), up to 1,600 EUR plus a flat-rate meal allowance of up to 25 EUR per day for a maximum of 20 days
• Travel allowance ranging from 211 EUR to 1,188 EUR depending on the destination country (similar to the DAAD travel allowance)
• Coverage of tuition fees of up to 10,000 EUR per academic year

In addition, the scholarship includes extensive non-financial support in the form of 

• access to the Studienstiftung’s educational program
• access to the scholarship program’s alumni network
• a networking seminar, tentatively planned for one of the target countries
• a direct point of contact and support with academic planning at the Studienstiftung’s headquarters as well as at your university in Germany
