Instructions for shibboleth authentication
How do I log in?
Authentication requires a login with your UDE ID (= Unikennung) and your password. A big advantage is that the login page is always the same, no matter which service or platform you want to log in to.
Once you have also logged in during a browser session, you no longer need to log in to the following services (single sign-on).
Where do I log in?
In order for Shibboleth to work, the registration process must currently be started from the publishing platform.
Usually, there is a login button or link on the publishing platform. Please make sure to select the "institutional login" and not the personal one.
In order to be assigned to your institution, you often have to click through several selection menus to get to the registration page ("Where-Are-You-From" = WAYF).
To do this, first select the Federation "German Higher Education (DFN-AAI)" from a pull-down menu and then the "University of Duisburg-Essen". After this, you will be forwarded to the login mask of our Shibboleth server.

What information is transmitted?
When you log in for the first time, you must consent to certain data being transferred to the publisher.
The information transmitted is confirmation that you are entitled to it and that you are a member of the UDE ("member@uni-duisburg-essen.de").
You also confirm the group to which you belong (student or employee, "student@uni-duisburg-essen.de" or "staff@uni-duisburg-essen.de").
The UDE ID (= Unikennung) or other personal information will not be transferred.
