E-Team unveils new electric racing car
From the lecture theatre to the racetrack

The E-Team at the University of Duisburg-Essen has unveiled the A40-06 Beta, the latest generation of its fully electric Formula Student racing car. Around 70 students from a range of disciplines independently designed, developed, manufactured and assembled the vehicle. The team will compete with the new race car in the upcoming Formula Student season at international events, including Formula Student Alpe Adria in Croatia.
The A40-06 Beta features several major improvements, including a significantly lighter tubular steel spaceframe made from high-strength Docol R8 steel, enhanced aerodynamics, a revised powertrain, and upgrades to the high-voltage system and vehicle electronics. These developments not only reduce the car's overall weight but also improve driver ergonomics.
"The A40-06 Beta is much more than just a new racing car for us. It represents countless hours of student-led development, manufacturing and organisational work. The vehicle demonstrates what can be achieved when students independently apply the knowledge they gain during their studies to a complex engineering project and work together towards a common goal as a team," says Omar Almaeeny, Sponsorship Manager of the University of Duisburg-Essen's E-Team.
Since its foundation in 2010, the E-Team has developed a new racing car every year for the international Formula Student competition. Formula Student is an international engineering design competition in which university students independently design, build and race single-seater racing cars. In addition to dynamic driving events, teams are assessed on engineering design, cost and manufacturing, business presentation, and technical innovation. The project enables students to apply their theoretical knowledge in a real-world engineering environment, bringing together expertise in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, software development and project management. At the University of Duisburg-Essen, students from mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, industrial engineering, business administration and economics, as well as other technical and organisational degree programmes, work together on the project.
The project is also supported by numerous companies, associations, foundations and institutions, including Siemens, ifm, Würth Elektronik, DEKRA, Open Grid Europe, and the University of Duisburg-Essen together with its participating faculties.
