The winter semester has begun at the University of Duisburg-Essen. In addition to predominantly online-supported courses, selected courses with special requirements are also held on site. The UDE has established regular operations with reduced attendance in the administration, faculties and institutions. Health protection for students and employees remains a top priority.

Due to the current sharp rise in the number of infections, the Rectorate has now decided to extend the existing obligation to wear masks: From November 2nd onwards, university members and guests will be obliged to wear a mask not only on the traffic areas and in special situations, but also in principle at the university.

This requirement applies to students and lecturers in courses, to lecturers and participants* in other events, in meetings, in all rooms and in waiting areas in front of buildings.

A mask can be dispensed with at the workplace if the specifications of the operational measures concept are complied with there, in tests where the corresponding hygiene concept of the UDE is applied and, under certain conditions, in laboratory operations. UDE childcare facilities are also excluded.
