Astrochemistry and star formation
Emmy Noether Group in Physics
- 23.04.2025
Dr Brandt Gaches was awarded an Emmy Noether Group by the German Research Foundation (DFG) in October 2024 for his outstanding research work in the field of cosmic rays and their effects in astrochemistry. In addition to the high reputation, this also includes research funding of more than 1.5 million euros. The expert in astrochemistry and star formation has now decided to set up his group at the Faculty of Physics at the University of Duisburg-Essen.
The group ‘Cosmic ray astrochemistry - from atomic to astrophysical scales’ will primarily investigate the interaction of cosmic rays with dense, molecular gas during star formation. In his new position, Gaches will strengthen the two professors Rolf Kuiper and Gerhard Wurm and increase the potential for joint research initiatives.
