"Boosting diversity. Protecting democracy": On this topic, the UDE invites its students and employees to celebrate the 13th Diversity Day on 27 May and to get into dialogue with each other. Several workshops, project presentations and a visit to an exhibition will provide an insight into diversity at the UDE. The event starts at 10.15 am in the Glass Pavilion (Essen campus).
"Kulturkampf und Konflikt oder gemeinsam für Demokratie und Gleichheit" (culture clashes and dispute – or working together for democracy and equality) is the title of a lecture with which independent jurist Prof Dr Ulrike Lembke opens the event. In it, the judge at the Berlin Constitutional Court addresses the role of the university in society – especially in times of crisis and conflict. Afterwards, the UDE Equality Oppurtunaties Officers and their deputies will give an insight into their work and present new ideas and perspectives.
The Rhine-Ruhr 2025 FISU World University Games from 16 to 27 July are casting their shadows ahead and will therefore naturally also play a role at this year's Diversity Day: 3x3 wheelchair basketball is the first para-sport to be integrated into the competition programme. As a partner university of the largest multi-sport event, UDE is taking this as an opportunity to address the topic of inclusion in sport – not only in theory, but also with a sporting programme.
Inclusion at the university, biodiversity, anti-Semitism, women in science – in the afternoon, workshops and an exhibition will show just how many aspects the topic of diversity can be viewed from.
German Diversity Day (DDT) is a nationwide day of action that highlights diversity in the world of work. It has been organised annually since 2012 by Charta der Vielfalt e. V. and takes place in companies and institutions.
