The next steps in the Excellence Strategy

On 22 May 2025, a landmark decision will be made for the University Alliance Ruhr. The rectors are inviting all interested parties to an information event in the evening.
On 22 May 2025, it's time to keep our fingers crossed! On Thursday evening, the German Research Foundation will announce its decisions on the first funding line of the Excellence Strategy. It will then also be known whether the four excellence cluster applications submitted by the University Alliance Ruhr will receive funding from 2026 and whether Ruhr University Bochum, TU Dortmund University and the University of Duisburg-Essen can jointly apply for the title of Excellence Network.

RESOLV: Ruhr Explores Solvation – Understanding and Design of Solvent Controlled Processes
In this cluster, scientists from Ruhr University Bochum and TU Dortmund University, with the participation of colleagues from the University of Duisburg-Essen and other partners, are conducting research in the field of solvent chemistry with the aim of understanding, predicting and controlling solvation processes.
CASA: Securing the Digital Society, IT Security
The CASA cluster aims to strengthen the indispensable security of our digital society in the long term. The Ruhr University Bochum is leading the project, with scientists from the University of Duisburg-Essen also involved.
REASONS: River Ecosystems in the Anthroposcene – sustainable scientific SOlutioNS
In this project, the University of Duisburg-Essen, in collaboration with scientists from Ruhr University Bochum and other partners, plans to develop a new, sustainable concept for water management.
In this project, researchers at TU Dortmund University, in cooperation with the University of Bonn, the University of Siegen and the Jülich Research Centre, want to search for new phenomena in the interaction of elementary particles.
The rectors of the three universities will discuss how the results of the Excellence Cluster decisions should be evaluated and what they mean for the future of the alliance during a digital exchange in the evening.
All members of the University Alliance Ruhr are cordially invited to the online panel discussion on 22 May 2025 at 8 p.m.
The panel will include Prof. Dr. Barbara Albert, Rector of the University of Duisburg-Essen, Prof. Dr. Manfred Bayer, Rector of the Technical University of Dortmund, and Prof. Dr. Martin Paul, Rector of the Ruhr University Bochum. Interested parties will have the opportunity to ask the rectors questions about the Excellence Strategy. The meeting will take place as a webinar on Zoom. The University Alliance Ruhr
Since 2007, the three universities in the Ruhr region have been working closely together under the umbrella of the University Alliance Ruhr (UA Ruhr).
