The Ruhr region remains a top address for prospective academics from American universities. Eight students from the University of Cincinnati, Lehigh University and the University of California, Berkeley are currently Ruhr Fellows at the three universities of the University Alliance Ruhr, two of them at the University of Duisburg-Essen.
The eight US students come from the fields of engineering and environmental sciences, economics and technology. Since the beginning of June, they have been Ruhr Fellows at the Universities of Bochum, Dortmund and Duisburg-Essen. The University Alliance Ruhr (UA Ruhr) programme for them begins with a two-week introduction including a crash course in German, a visit to the Zollverein Coal Mine Industrial Complex and various cultural events. They then complete an eight-week internship in various companies in the region. This gives them a comprehensive insight into academic, cultural and professional life in the Ruhr region.
„Two of the Ruhr Fellows have found their internship at the University of Duisburg-Essen with Professor Hannes Rothe. They are researching Business Administration and Business Economics & Information Systems“ says Dr Tomasz Waliczko, Aurora Project Manager at the University of Duisburg-Essen (UDE). He coordinates the students' stay with us.
Petra Günther from the International Office is also delighted with the visit: „Welcoming international students is one of my favourite things to do. It makes it clear what our work is all about: connecting students and researchers across borders.“
