Obituary
In Memory of Beate Kostka
- 03.06.2026
It is with deep sadness that we say goodbye to our longtime and valued colleague, Beate Kostka.
Beate Kostka was born on September 22, 1960, and joined the staff of Gerhard Mercator University Duisburg on December 18, 1987. For many years, she shaped the university’s public relations efforts with extraordinary dedication, professionalism, and great passion.
On April 14, 2000, she took over as head of what was then the Press Office at the University of Duisburg and later became head of the Press Division within the University Management and Communications Office at the University of Duisburg-Essen. As press spokesperson, she was a defining voice for the university and a valued point of contact for colleagues, media representatives, and numerous external partners.
Beate Kostka impressed not only with her expertise and strong communication skills, but also with her genuine interest in people and their stories. She stood out for her sharp mind, her wide-ranging interests, her empathy, and her ability to explain even complex concepts in a clear and empathetic way.
In 2019, a serious illness abruptly cut Beate Kostka off from her professional life. This sudden change not only marked the end of her active career, but also left a noticeable void in the daily interactions of many of her colleagues.
With the passing of Beate Kostka, we have lost a reliable, dedicated, and warm-hearted person. We will always remember her achievements, her experience, and her kind nature with gratitude.
Our deepest sympathies go out to her family, her loved ones, and all those who were close to her.
We will honor Beate Kostka’s memory with respect and gratitude.
