Rare books - precious holdings

The stock of the Duisburg-Essen University Library is usually associated with contemporary literature for study and research – and, of course, up-to-date electronic media, too.

But we also offer precious scientific literature from the 16th century on. These rare books are certainly not comparable to the vast collections of the large state libraries, but for that reason we appreciate them all the more.

In total, the university library holds about 5.500 individual volumes that are estimated as invaluable. Some of them have been inherited or are gifts by predecessor institutions, while others have been systematically acquired at antiquarian booksellers or at book auctions.
