Tailored Materials

The meetings lead by the research coordinator focusing on the faculty research profiles Tailored Materials (TM). The goals of the meetings are to bring together the members of the profile and to exchange ideas among them about current research topics. The following potential joint research directions and collaborations emerged:

  • Analysis of damage mechanisms e.g. fatigue, wear, erosion.
  • Materials for Energy e.g. electrocatalysis, battery materials, hydrogen
  • Merging the topics of materials and energy

The discussion focused on possibilities for cooperation within the Research Center: Future Energy Materials and Systems as well as the profile focus Materials Chain of the University Alliance Ruhr. Funded programs were also explored, such as the call for proposals on Advanced Materials within the framework of Horizon Europe (Cluster 4: Digital and Industrial Technologies) or the state cluster NMWP.NRW.

Human-Centered Cyber-Physical Systems

The workshop of the faculty research profiles Human-Centered Cyber-Physical Systems (HCPS) are lead by the research coordination. The goals of the meetings are to bring together the members of the HCPS profile and to exchange information among each other about current research topics. The focus is on the following topics:

  • Human-Centered AI
  • AI in medicine, in the field of smart living but also for the optimization of production and logistics processes
  • Optimization of operational processes based on information
  • Data mining and data security

In addition, through the link to the Research Center: Trustworthy Data Science and Security of the University Alliance Ruhr as well as to other ongoing projects in the field of cyber-physical systems are discussed.

Energy and Resource Engineering

The workshop of the Energy and Resource Engineering (ERE) faculty research profiles are to create a starting point in the research coordination. The goals of the meetings are to bring together the members of the HE profile and to exchange ideas among themselves about current research topics. The following proposals of the professors for joint research are discussed:

  • Reliability in the future system of (electric) power supply.
  • Integrated energy conversion and supply of quarters (e.g. by energy management)
  • New energy carriers (H₂, NH3, metals)
  • Toxins in the environment and production

Several current programs are discussed. Among them the 7th BMBF energy research program with the real laboratories of the energy turnaround, the NRW state programs progres.nrw and REVIER.GESTALTEN as well as the expansion of transdisciplinary energy research within the competence field "Energy - System - Transformation" of the University Alliance Ruhr on the agenda.
