IFORES - Bonus funds

This funding measure rewards the acquisition of peer-reviewed third-party funds. A financial bonus is provided for third-party funding from various institutions (DFG, BMBF, EU and foundations that carry out a peer review). Funding that is not awarded in a scientifically recognized review process (e.g. industry funding and donations) is not subsidized.

Guidelines and application

Eligible for bonification:

Third-party funds from faculty members and co-opted faculty members as well as scientists who are employed at the University Hospital Essen, the LVR-Klinikum Essen or the Ruhrlandklinik, whose management is carried out via accounts of the UK Essen. In addition, scientists from the ZMB and other cooperating institutions can apply for bonus funds if a joint acquisition of third-party funds with a clinic or institute of the University Hospital Essen as an equal partner exists and the third-party funds are also managed via accounts of the UK Essen.

 

Application: 

Bonification is based on the notification of third-party funding. A separate application is not required.

 

Scope of funding:

Funding of up to:

  • 10 % of the third-party funding raised from the DFG,
  • 5 %  of the third-party funding raised from the EU,
  • 3 % of the third-party funding raised from the BMBF and other federal ministries
  • 3 % of the third-party funding raised from peer-reviewed foundations

The bonus funds are awarded for personnel and material resources (consumables, laboratory animals, publications and travel funds).

 

Review:

Internal review by the Commission for Research and Academic Career Development.

 

Payout:

The bonus funds are paid out on the basis of third-party funding approval.

 

Duration:

Bonus funds should be spent during the approval period (date of funding approval plus the duration specified therein). Funds not spent are returned to the IFORES program at the end of the following calendar year (31.12.). This does not apply to bonus funds already used for personnel measures. These are available until the end of the personnel measure. This regulation applies to bonus funding approvals from 01.01.2020.
